Turkish psychedelic band BaBa ZuLa has released “Arsız Saksağan (Cheeky Magpie),” the first single from their upcoming album İstanbul Sokakları (Streets of Istanbul), set to launch on 8 November 2024 through Glitterbeat Records. The single is accompanied by a video showcasing protest footage from Turkey.
Murat Ertel, the band’s co-vocalist and electric saz player, describes the song as a “groovy dance floor track with a minimalist feel, rare in today’s music scene.” He also notes that the song serves as a political commentary, criticizing injustice and capitalism.
Formed by Levent Akman and Murat Ertel, BaBa ZuLa is known for their innovative fusion of Turkish percussion, glitched electronics, electric saz, and dual male/female vocals. Their forthcoming album will feature eight tracks, mixing hypnotic rhythms with a bold political message.
