Carnegie Hall Launches Season-Long Nuestros Sonidos Festival During Hispanic Heritage Month

Carnegie Hall is launching Nuestros Sonidos, a season-long festival celebrating Hispanic culture in the U.S., in conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month. The festival begins with three concerts featuring renowned conductor Gustavo Dudamel leading the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

The opening performance on October 8 includes baritone Gustavo Castillo in Ginastera’s Estancia. The October 9 concert features a new work for cello and orchestra by Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz, alongside Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, narrated in Spanish by actress María Valverde. On October 10, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Natalia Lafourcade will join as a special guest.

Preceding the festival’s kickoff, Carnegie Hall Citywide will present Afro-Cuban singer Daymé Arocena on September 20 in Madison Square Park. The following day, a free family event, Baila! Canta! Celebra!, will feature music and dance activities for children in Carnegie Hall’s Resnick Education Wing.

Throughout the 2024–2025 season, Nuestros Sonidos will present a wide variety of Latin music genres, including salsa, bachata, reggaeton, Latin jazz, hip-hop, and classical. The festival highlights the evolution of Latin music, with a particular focus on U.S.-based contributions and Caribbean influences.

Other key festival events include:

  • Soprano Lisette Oropesa’s October 23 recital featuring Cuban composers.
  • Reggaeton icon Ivy Queen’s Carnegie Hall debut on November 20.
  • Colombian band Monsieur Periné’s upbeat blend of Latin and European styles on February 22.
  • Salsa legends Grupo Niche’s Carnegie Hall debut on April 17.
