Queens United International Party (QUIP) is set to host its 7th annual World Music Festival on Saturday, September 21, at Sunnyside Gardens Park (48-21 39th Avenue) in Sunnyside, Queens, from 4 PM to 10 PM. This family-friendly event will feature an eclectic lineup of global music, offering attendees a diverse array of performances from internationally acclaimed artists and local talent. Tickets are available for $15 at the door, with free admission for children under 12.

The festival will showcase the world-renowned kora player Yacouba Sissoko. Hailing from a long lineage of Malian musicians, Sissoko has modernized the traditional kora sound through collaborations with artists such as Harry Belafonte, Lauryn Hill, and Paul Simon.

The festival lineup includes Alea, a Colombian artist mixing cumbia, vallenato, and jazz; Malini Srinivasan, a Bharatanatyam dancer known for her deep commitment to Indian classical traditions; Fogo Azul NYC, an all-women, trans, and non-binary Brazilian samba reggae drumline; Liftoff Brass Band, which fuses New Orleans brass with a New York groove; the Ghanaian Akoko Nante Ensemble; Uruguayan electronic artist Somer Suarez; and the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, a group rooted in American circus and vaudeville traditions.

The QUIP World Music Festival celebrates the cultural diversity of Queens, often referred to as “the world’s borough.” In addition to the music, the event will feature kid’s crafts, dance contests, and a variety of food vendors, including The Burrito Factory, Mom’s Momos, Jam Rock Jerk, and MozzArepas. Drinks will be provided by Sunnyside’s Alewife Brewing.
