The EP will explore cultural connections between North Africa, specifically Morocco, and regions such as China, Spain, sub-Saharan Africa, and the Arab world.
“Mar, Sangre, Arena” delivers multiple messages through its lyrics and innovative production. It pays tribute to the indigenous women of Morocco, who remain behind while their loved ones risk their lives crossing the sea. The song features “yuyuyu” chants and honors Lalla Buya, an Amazigh warrior, symbolizing courage in facing the vast sea.
The song’s protagonist, referred to as “the boy with the striking trousers,” wears pants made from plastic bags, symbolizing border repression and human commodification. This metaphor highlights the sacrifices made in the pursuit of a better future, with a part of oneself lost in the process of migration.
