Grupo Polo Montañez – Joyas del Guajiro (Lusafrica, 2024)
Grupo Polo Montañez, composed of former musicians of the late singer, is releasing a new album titled “Joyas del Guajiro” under the Lusafrica label.
Recorded at dBega Studios in Havana, the album features ten previously unreleased songs from Polo Montañez’s repertoire, performed by his band to honor his legacy and keep his music alive. This is flavorful, irresistible and supremely addictive Cuban rural music from the mountains, pura sabrosura guajira cubana.
About the Band:
After Polo Montañez’s death in 2002, the group faced challenges in finding a singer who could maintain the spirit of his music. This led to a period of inactivity, with some members leaving the band.
In 2008, Yosleny Chirino joined as the lead singer, bringing his own exceptional talent while respecting the group’s musical heritage, under the leadership of Amaury Romero Borrego.
In 2014, Gladys Pérez, known as Polo’s second voice and sometimes soloist, along with Pedro Morales, rejoined the group. Together, they reaffirm their commitment to preserving the musical legacy of Polo Montañez.
