The Sonido Madrid en Vivo 24 series highlights the richness, quality, and artistic diversity of Madrid’s music scene, and flamenco is a significant part of this. Over the past decades, Madrid has become a vital hub for flamenco culture, nurturing numerous artists through its vibrant venues and tablaos. This year, the young dancer Atenea Toro will perform at Torero, Laura Fúnez will showcase the bolero school at Tablao 1911, and vocalist Pastora Andrades will take the stage at El Despertar.

Thursday, May 30: Essential Flamenco with Atenea Toro – Teatro Tablao Flamenco Torero

Atenea Toro, a dancer born in Madrid, began her training at age 4 at her local municipal school and continued at the Instituto Flamenco La Truco. She later developed her skills at the prestigious Amor de Dios school, studying under renowned masters like Pedro Córdoba, Belén López, José Maya, and Paloma Fantova. Essential Flamenco aims to recapture the intimate essence of authentic flamenco, with the audience seated close to the stage in three rows of chairs. This intimacy is crucial for experiencing the true spirit of flamenco.

Wednesday, June 5: Laura Fúnez – Tablao Flamenco 1911

Born in Madrid in 1996, Laura Fúnez trained at the Real Conservatorio Profesional de Danza Mariemma. She brings a personal and modern touch to the bolero school in the tablao setting. Having performed with various flamenco, stylized dance, and Spanish dance companies, she eventually began her solo career in tablaos, evolving her unique interpretation of the bolero school. Her approach to dance is deeply personal and pure.

Sunday, June 9: Pastora Andrades– El Despertar

Pastora Andrades, a singer and bassist born in Algeciras in 1989, comes from a musical lineage. Her influences span flamenco, rock, neo-soul, jazz, and Brazilian music. At 18, she debuted as a bassist at Dublin’s National Concert Hall. She has lived in Madrid for several years, working on numerous projects as a singer and bassist, collaborating with artists like Ketama, Jorge Pardo, Pepe Bao, and Kiki Morente. Currently, she is part of the project “Labudú” with Juanma Montoya, Josué Ronkío, and David Bao. For this event, she will present a new project featuring music influenced by Argentina and Brazil, performing alongside trombonist Roberto Elekes and guitarist Iker García.
