Portuguese trio Espiral Reveals New Single “Pantagruel”

Portuguese act Espiral unveils their latest single, “Pantagruel,” shedding light on their upcoming album slated for release later this year. The trio includes Ana Clément (recorders), Emiliana Silva (violin), and Sara Vidal (Celtic harp). With this new release, they follow the growing trend in Portugal of mixing folk and European dances with Celtic music, presenting a mix of traditional pieces and original compositions, exemplified by “Pantagruel.”

Maintaining their signature acoustic and instrumental style, “Pantagruel” embraces the an dro rhythm, a hallmark of Brittany’s traditional music scene. The recording and production were overseen by musician Quiné Teles at Estúdio Sótão da Velha (Ílhavo), while the accompanying music video, shot by Rui Russo at the Lvsitânea Druidic Center in Reguengos de Monsaraz, received support from the Assembly of the Lusitanian Druidic Tradition.

Espiral draws inspiration from Celtic culture, offering listeners a voyage through the traditional music of Ireland, Scotland, Galicia, Wales, Brittany, and Portugal, interspersed with their own compositions. Their acoustic sound, led by Ana Clément on recorders, bagpipes, and vocals, Emiliana Silva on violin, and Sara Vidal on Celtic harp, acoustic guitar, and vocals, evokes both intimate romantic settings and the lively atmosphere of European folk dances.
