Guitarists Matthew Montfort and Teja Gerken to Perform at S.F. International Arts Fest

On May 10, 2024, at 8 PM, the Global Guitar Summit will present acclaimed acoustic guitarists Matthew Montfort and Teja Gerken at the S.F. International Arts Festival.

Matthew Montfort, a prominent figure in world fusion music, introduced his debut solo album, Seven Serenades for Scalloped Fretboard Guitar, in 2009. Renowned for his mastery of the scalloped fretboard guitar, Montfort’s unique style blends intricate note-bending techniques gleaned from South Indian gamaka with chordal harmonies. Montfort’s influences spans the realms of western classical, Celtic, Indian, and contemporary music.

Teja Gerken, born in Germany, is celebrated for his contemporary steel-string fingerstyle guitar skill. Influenced by European guitarists like John Renbourn and Pierre Bensusan, as well as American virtuosos such as Leo Kottke and Michael Hedges, Gerken’s compositions resonate with a fusion of styles. Employing alternate tunings, two-handed tapping, and percussive effects, Gerken’s innovative approach extends to genres including Celtic, jazz, and classical. His latest album, “Test of Time,” showcases his diverse musical palette.

The Global Guitar Summit, initiated by Gerken and Montfort in 2016, serves as a platform for guitar enthusiasts to witness collaborative performances and solo showcases. The event promises an evening of captivating music, ranging from reimagined classical pieces to contemporary compositions and popular tunes.

Venue: Community Music Center, 544 Capp Street, San Francisco, CA 94110.
