Armchair Boogie, renowned for their unique blend of bluegrass infused with funk, has a new album titled Hard Times & Deadlines. The talented quartet from Wisconsin brings a fresh spin to the genre with rock style drums and electric bass backing acoustic and electric guitar, along with banjo melodies. Their energetic performances and powerful harmonies have solidified their status as an exciting act.
The upcoming album features the lead single, “Hard Times,” a reflection on life’s challenges, with frontman Augie Dougherty sharing personal insights into navigating the pressures of adulthood.
”’Hard Times” exemplifies Armchair Boogie’s dualistic nature, mixing traditional banjo picking with contemporary folk-jamgrass sensibilities. The album’s second single, “Liquor Store,” delves into nostalgia and youth, featuring guest fiddler Ernest Brusubardis IV.
Self-produced amidst the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hard Times & Deadlines highlights the band’s growth both lyrically and musically. Each track reflects on life’s highs and lows, from love and fond memories to existential reflections on the human journey.
Collaboration is at the heart of Armchair Boogie’s creative process, with each member contributing their unique touch to refine the songs. From humble beginnings on a front porch in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, to sharing stages with acclaimed acts like The Infamous Stringdusters and Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, their journey has been one of growth and collaboration.
