Nowruz by Aga Khan Master Musicians has attained the highest position of the World Music Charts Europe for the month of February 2024.
The Aga Khan Master Musicians, formed in 2013 by the Aga Khan Music Programme, combine diverse musical traditions into a unique sound. Their debut album, Nowruz, released in October 2023, symbolizes renewal and celebrates their eclectic backgrounds. The group’s creative process is democratic, with each member contributing compositions, resulting in a fusion of folk, jazz, and classical influences.
Their instrumentation reflects ancient musical connections, from the qanun to the saxophone and pipa. Despite their unconventional lineup, AKMM’s world music resonates widely and serves as a model for cultural development initiatives. As educators and performers, they emphasize the importance of tradition as a guiding force in artistic exploration.
