Labryenco – Morir y Nacer (-I-C-U-B4-T-, 2023)
Labryenco, the dynamic flamenco ensemble led by Netherlands-based guitarist and composer Alain Labrie, has released its third album, Morir y nacer (To die and be born), which is an ode to life. In eight gracefully assembled songs, Labryenco takes the listener on a journey through life and death.
The CD includes many contributions from guest musicians. Notably, Spanish flute maestro Jorge Pardo is a sepeial guest on Morir y Nacer. The gifted virtuoso musician was part of Paco de Lucia’s sextet for many years and toured with legendary jazz pianist Chick Corea, among others. “To have such a celebrity playing with us is a dream come true,” said Alain Labrie.
Labryenco’s lively, accessible and crossover flamenco is meant to appeal to fans of classical music, world music, jazz, and even pop. Indeed, the band is comfortable breaking musical boundaries.
