The new single by renowned flamenco singer Argentina is a collaboration with the legendary Cuban musician Pancho Céspedes titled “Donde está la vida” (“Where life is”). This song is a hit by the famous Cuban singer who released it more than 20 years ago. Argentina is one of the finest singers in the current Flamenco scene.
The idea of recording “Donde está la vida” with Pancho Céspedes arose this past summer 2023, specifically in Alcalá de los Gazules (Cádiz) at a concert by the Cuban singer at the XVIII Alkalat International Music Festival. Argentina was invited by Pancho to sing this same song on stage.
The anecdote is that just before finishing, Céspedes stopped the song and told Argentina in a tone of maximum complicity with her and with the audience: “we have to record this to move the world and not just keep it here in Alcalá de los Gazules.” Argentina accepted with delight.
The story continues. Pancho told Argentina that he was going to sit in the audience and listen to her. And so it was, with the singer sitting in the audience at his own concert, Argentina sang, accompanied by Jesús Lavilla on the piano, “Pena penita pena” and “Lágrimas negras.” Pancho did not stop cheering her on from the audience and ended up singing “Lágrimas negras” with her as the singer returning to the stage. At the end of the concert, he also called her to perform her famous song “Esta vida loca” with her, also creating enthusiasm in the audience.
