The final week of Suma Flamenca 2023 will feature Estrella Morente and Rafael Riqueni‘s tribute to La Niña de los Peines and El Niño Ricardo as one of its highlights. While Suma Flamenca is inspired this year by La Niña de los Peines, Granada singer Estrella Morente is also influenced by La Niña de los Peines. Indeed, her show Estrella y Rafael, a premiere in the Madrid region’s prominent flamenco festival, will take place Tuesday, October 31st at Teatros del Canal in Madrid.
The Rafael mentioned in the show’s title is Rafael Riqueni, one of the best guitarists in the world. He and Estrella Morente walk through different styles of flamenco in this recital. They take a tour of the great masters of flamenco, thus becoming a memory, tribute, evocation, and gratitude to those performers of flamenco art in the decades of the 1920s, 30s and 40s of the 20th century: Niño Ricardo, Dolores Jiménez Alcántara “La Niña de la Puebla” and José Tejada Martín, known as the Niño de Marchena, among other greats.
