Anoushka Shankar Releases ‘Daydreaming’ Music Video

Renowned sitar player, producer, and composer Anoushka Shankar has released a new single titled “Daydreaming” featuring Nils Frahm. The track is the second single from Shankar’s upcoming mini-album Chapter I: Forever, For Now, which will be released on Nils Frahm’s Leiter label on October 6th, 2023.

Anoushka Shankar says about the piece: “’Daydreaming’ is inspired by two things – firstly, the core melody is a South Indian Carnatic song that I grew up listening to as a kid, and throughout my life whenever I’ve heard it performed, it’s always made me cry. It’s a melody I find really beautiful and innocent and sweet. And it’s a lineage that connects me to my mother and my grandmother and my memories of them. Secondly, last summer one of my kids was lying on my lap while I was practicing and as he fell asleep I started playing the melody and the tenderness of my childhood that it brought to mind felt like a through line I wanted to explore.”

Recorded at Leiter’s studio in Berlin, the four new compositions on Forever, For Now, make up the first chapter in a trilogy of mini-albums Shankar will be writing and releasing as an evolving story between tours. The album features guest appearances by Nils Frahm (piano, glass harmonica, harmonium, slit drum), Gal Maestro (bass) and Magda Giannikou (accordion),

Forever, For Now was produced by Arooj Aftab, with whom Shankar had previously collaborated on ‘Udhero Na’, from the deluxe edition of Aftab’s Vulture Prince album.
