Los Angeles Global Music Festival to Unite Cultures Through Vibrant Performances and Artistic Expression

The Resonance Collective and Numinous Music are presenting the inaugural Los Angeles Global Music Festival on September 9, 2023, at the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles. This day-long world music festival celebrates diverse cultures through musical performances. The festival aims to highlight historically neglected cultural and spiritual practices through art and music. The event will be headlined by the Inuit group Pamyua, known for mixing R&B, funk, and traditional drum dances and songs of the Yup’ik, the Indigenous peoples of Alaska. Pamyua will also offer an interactive Yup’ik dance workshop earlier in the day.

The idea for the festival has been in the works for years, and it became a reality when Craig S. Hyman, co-producer and curator of the festival, teamed up with Fahad Siadat, the artistic director of the Resonance Collective. The event will feature sacred music and dance from around the world, with a focus on promoting cultural understanding and unity.

Pamyua, renowned for their modern interpretation of Yup’ik culture, will be at the forefront of mainstream entertainment with their contributions to various TV shows and their inclusion in the Library of Congress’ permanent national archive.

The festival will also feature a local opening act representing a culturally spiritual tradition. Tickets for the event are available, and the festival takes place at the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles, a venue known for hosting exciting musical experiences. This event serves as an opportunity for diverse audiences to learn about and embrace various cultures, fostering a sense of togetherness and appreciation for cultural diversity.“

While I witnessed firsthand the abundance of cultural and ethnic music through the greater Los Angeles region, it seemed almost underground at times. I felt this was under serving these — and all other — communities,” says Hyman. “What was really needed was something to bring them all together and present this to the general public, and that’s where the idea of creating and presenting a festival became apparent and necessary to me.”

We are lucky to partner with Craig and Numinous Music, who have decades of experience working with artists from around the world. He was able to find a headliner for this festival that has never been heard in LA before,” adds Fahad Siadat. “The Resonance Collective’s mission is to explore how artists from different cultural perspectives re-invent how we define sacred music today. A cosmopolitan city like LA deserves more opportunities to celebrate music from around the world, and we are happy to provide a festival experience where attendees can experience these fantastic performances as well as learn about the traditions first-hand.”

When: Saturday, September 9, 2023; workshops start at 3pm, doors open at 7:00 pm.
