Madrid’s influential flamenco event, Suma Flamenca Joven is set to present rising flamenco acts at Teatros del Canal in four galas from September 21 to 24, 2023.
Suma Flamenca Joven, organized by the Comunidad de Madrid (Madrid Regional Government), is set up in a gala every day that will each present a performance by an instrumental soloist, a cantaor or cantaora (vocalists) and a bailaor or bailaora (dancer) under 30 years of age.
“The Community of Madrid wants to support the new values of flamenco singing, dancing, and concert guitar. But we are not dealing with mere undocumented infants, rather most of them already have a successful and fruitful career on flamenco stages”, explained the director of the festival, Antonio Benamargo, in the presentation of the program, together with Daniel Martínez, Vice Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Sport.
The first gala will feature the art of Utrera pianist Andrés Barrios, the singing of Rafael del Calli from Córdoba and the dancing of Nazareth Reyes from Seville.
The second show will spotlight guitarist Fermín Fernández from Granada, singer Laura Marchal from Jaén, and Juan Tomás de la Molía from Cádiz.
The cast of the third gala is made up of guitarist Marcos de Silvia from Jerez, Lucía Beltrán from Huelva and Claudia La Debla from Granada.
The series will end with performances by guitarist Benito Bernal from Huelva, singer José El Berenjeno from Jerez and Laura Funes from Madrid.
