Taj Mahal - Savoy

Taj Mahal Secures Number One Position on NACC’s Blues Music Chart for the Week of May 23

The album “Savoy” (Linus/Stony Plain) by legendary American roots music artist Taj Mahal has landed at #1 on the Blues Music category on the North American College and Community radio (NACC) charts for the week ending May 23, 2023.

Taj Mahal takes a new direction in his musical journey with his album “Savoy“, which features a collection of blues oriented classic material. The album is a throwback to the sounds of the swing jazz big band era, and covers 14 standards composed by Duke Ellington, Louis Jordan, George Gershwin and Louis Armstrong.

Taj Mahal collaborated with his good friend and record producer John Simon, and the album features guest vocals by Maria Muldaur and Evan Price’s violin on two tracks. According to Taj Mahal, the songs on Savoy were like listening to his relatives, uncles, cousins, and grandparents speaking to him through the medium of music. The album was recorded in August 2022 in Oakland, California.
