The concluding show of the 2023 Madrid Flamenco festival, entitled Ellas, on May 27, 2023, constitutes the third major production of the event. Notably, Ellas, a Spanish feminine plural subject pronoun, serves as the show’s title. Esteemed musician, Sergio de Lope, has developed this performance with support from Casa Mediterráneo to commemorate the tenth anniversary of its headquarters.
De Lope’s production explores the intersection between traditional Andalusian music, which comprises Arabic and Jewish elements, and flamenco, all within a contemporary, innovative, and transgressive framework. The co-stars of this artistic undertaking are three extraordinarily talented women: Mor Karbasi from Israel, Abir el Abed from Morocco, and Ángeles Toledano from Spain. The trio aims to blend the music and traditions of their respective cultures to provide a unique, unparalleled experience for the audience.
