Los Angeles International Flamenco Festival Announces 2023 Program

The Los Angeles International Flamenco Festival will return April 1st and 2nd, 2023, to the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. The event continues its mission to present unique programming and world-class flamenco music to Los Angeles with the most acclaimed and influential flamenco artists direct from Spain, many making their first U.S./Los Angeles appearances.

InterAcción: Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 8 p.m.

This concert features world-renowned flamenco visionary and Spanish Gypsy pianist Dorantes. Despite the piano being an instrument that was uncommon in the flamenco tradition, Dorantes has managed to infuse the melodies and rhythms of flamenco, impressionist music, and jazz. The result is an absolutely moving, complex, and personal performance that challenges the dominance of the guitar. Joining him on stage is Pastora Galván, an in-demand flamenco dancer and winner of the “Premio Nacional Matilde Coral” in 2002, and percussionist Cheyén, creating a unique and intense flamenco experience for all the senses.

La Guitarra Canta: Sunday, April 2, 2023, at 8 p.m.

Also featured is the internationally acclaimed director, dancer, and choreographer Antonio Canales, who has achieved global recognition for his performances with top dance companies worldwide. Canales shares the stage with David el Galli and Manuel de la Tomasa on vocals, David de Arahal on guitar, and Cheyén on percussion.

Ana Crismán

Opening both nights’ performances is the talented flamenco harpist Ana Crismán, the only musician known for playing and composing flamenco on the harp. Crismán and her Arpa Jonda have graced iconic venues such as the Teatro Villamarta and the Alhambra of Granada in the Festival de Música y Danza de Granada (Fex). She also appeared at international festivals such as the Sfinks Mixed Festival 2018 (Belgium) and the Festival Musicale del Mediterraneo (Italy).

Before the show, attendees can visit the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center’s art gallery for an exhibition featuring works by the award-winning Parsi painter and dancer Afroz André. Visitors can also enter to win a vacation to Spain sponsored by the Tourist Office of Spain by making a charitable donation to the Global Gift Foundation USA, a 501(c)3 charitable organization that supports various causes and initiatives addressing poverty, health, education, and social care.
