In the world of experimental Celtic music, Brìghde Chaimbeul is a leading figure, earning a BBC Young Folk Award and a Horizon Award for her Scottish smallpipes playing. From performing at the Cop26 climate conference for world leaders to collaborating with artists such as Caroline Polachek, Chaimbeul has brought her instrument to a global audience.
In her upcoming album ‘Carry Them With Us’ (releasing on April 14 via tak:til/Glitterbeat, Chaimbeul takes her artistry beyond folk music, exploring the intersection of tradition and minimalism and creating a unique sound that’s all her own. The album features an exhilarating mix of rich textural drones, trance atmospheres, and instrumental folk traditions.
A sneak peek of the upcoming album was recently released in the form of a single and accompanying music video for “Tha Fonn Gun Bhi Trom: I Am Disposed Of Mirth,” created in collaboration with Canadian sound explorer and saxophonist Colin Stetson (known for his work with Arcade Fire and Bon Iver), who also co-produced the album. Shot on the Isle of Skye, where Chaimbeul was born, the music video showcases the dramatic landscapes of the Cuillins mountains.
