The European Folk Network (EFN) has announced that September 23, 2023, will mark the debut of the first European Folk Day. This celebration will highlight the significance of traditional art forms, including music, dance, and storytelling. The idea of a pan-European event to showcase these arts has been a hot topic among EFN members since the network’s inception in 2019. The event will finally come to fruition on September 23, which coincides with the Autumnal Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere.
Additionally, the MusicAIRE program announced that it has awarded project funding to EFN so that it can pilot, coordinate and publicize European Folk Day participation. MusicAIRE is a European Music Council/Inova initiative with funds from the European Union.
The EFN Board is actively planning the coordination and promotion of the first European Folk Day on September 23, 2023. Further details will be announced soon. The celebration is open to all, not just EFN members, but anyone involved in traditional music, dance, and storytelling. The goal of the European Folk Day is to raise awareness and elevate the profile of folk arts across Europe and individual countries.
