GIMA Trio featuring Alex & David Chen & WAKA are set to perform at the 2022 World Music Festival @ Taiwan. The concert will take place October 14, 2022, Friday, 7:30PM – 8:15PM (GMT+8).
Alex Wu
Excelling at the erhu, Latin percussion, and hand drums from Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, Alex Wu works in the genres of pop, world music, and jazz. His extraordinary capacity for and experience with performance and ability to blend different styles has made him one of the hottest world music performers in Taiwan. From huge pop concert tours to national-level orchestras, you’re very likely to see him in the mix, adding his personal touch to push the performance to the next level.
David Chen
David Chen is a blues guitarist and singer-songwriter from the US. In 1997, he arrived to Taiwan and formed the Muddy Basin Ramblers with friends from the US and UK, bringing their combination of blues, string band, and jug music all over Taiwan. With his passion for the early 20th-century styles of these types of music and a love for folk music from all over the world, he has worked with Taiwanese artists in producing several Golden Melody Award-winning albums.
WAKA
In 1987, WAKA came under the tutelage of Dilip Mukherjee in learning the tabla and has been performing ever since. He has played with several crossover artists in the US and Europe, held countless solo concerts in India and Japan, and performed at music festivals in India, Bangladesh, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea, China, and Canada. In 2011, he was nominated for a Golden Melody Award for Best Instrumental Performance.
