Drom, New York City’s popular venue for world music has confirmed a second round of 15th Anniversary shows. Newly announced concerts include Afro-Cuban percussionist and vocalist Pedrito Martinez, French-Algerian guitarist Pierre Bensusan, Gypsy Jazz guitar master Stéphane Wrembel and improvisational ensemble BronX BandA featuring Arturo O’Farrill
Drom, along with Barbès and globalFEST, will join forces with Lincoln Center on July 30 for a “Summer for the City” mega event of musical discovery in Damrosch Park
Along with the exciting series of live events, Drom has also launched a new record label. Known as Drom Music, the label has announced its debut album release “Sketches of Green” by Turkish pianist, composer, bandleader Bilge Günaydın. The album includes a bit of Mediterranean influence and a peaceful atmosphere, based on Günaydın’s own roots.
Located on Avenue A in the East Village, Drom is a word in the Gypsy (Roma) language for journey.

Martinez is widely regarded as the world’s leading percussionist in Afro Cuban music and a vocalist and of enormous talent. Echoes of Africa is a show that, in addition to his regular repertoire, will feature elements of Cuban Rumba, and Yoruba, music and dance. These will include batas and orisha singing, and rumba percussion and songs.

From May 14–August 14, Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City presents hundreds of FREE events — welcoming hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers.On July 30, NYC nightclubs Drom and Barbès join forces with the international music festival globalFEST in commemoration of their milestone anniversaries (respectively 15, 20, and 20 years) for this mega event of musical discovery, featuring powerful artists with unique voices hailing from across the globe. Scheduled performers include DakhaBrakha (Ukraine); Aynur (Turkey); Rare Essence (Washington, DC); Combo Chimbita (New York/Colombia); Amythyst Kiah (Tennessee) and Ahmad Fanoos and The Heart of Afghanistan Project (Afghanistan/USA). The evening culminates with a late night Global Silent Disco as a celebration of musical freedom and a danceable vision of peace.
