Flamenco Star Miguel Poveda to Perform in Los Angeles This Week

Acclaimed flamenco singer Miguel Poveda is set to perform on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 8:00 p.m. at Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles, California. One day later, flamenco saxophonist Antonio Lizana will perform at Hollywood’s Bourbon Room.

Miguel Poveda is one of the top flamenco vocalists in Spain. He possesses a strong technique and a charismatic stage presence. For his long-awaited Los Angeles solo debut performance, Poveda will take the audience on a tour of the traditional musical forms of flamenco, from the cheerful malagueñas and alegrías to the more sorrowful seguirillas and soleás.

Poveda was recently the Best Flamenco Album from the Odeón Awards for “Diverso”. The award honors the best performers and albums of the year 2021.

Poveda has been awarded numerous prizes during his 30-year career: the 2007 National Music Prize, the chair of flamenco studies of Jerez de la Frontera, the Andalusia Medal in 2012, Seville Honorary Citizen, La Unión Award in the province of Murcia, and of Badalona.

Poveda will be accompanied on stage by four great artists: Jesús Guerrero (guitar), Joan Albert Amargos (piano), ‘El Londro’ (vocals and palmas), Paquito Gonzalez (percussion), and dancer Antonio Molina “El Choro”.

Antonio Lizana

Saxophonist, vocalist and composer Antonio Lizana is a renowned Flamenco Jazz artist from southern Spain.

Antonio Lizana was born in 1986 and raised in San Fernando, a town in Cádiz province, one of the cradles of flamenco singing, where from a young age he collaborated with countless artists in the area. He has collaborated with artists such as Arturo O’Farrill and Alejandro Sanz on works that received Grammy awards. He has also collaborated on recordings and in live performances with Snarky Puppy, Marcus Miller, Chano Domínguez, Alfredo Rodríguez, Ari Hoenig, Jorge Drexler, India Martínez, Jorge Pardo, Shai Maestro, Chambao, José Mercé, Josemi Carmona, Carmen Linares and Pepe Habichuela.

Lizana will share the stage with guest dancer Manuel Gutierrez along with Gabriel Chakarji on piano, Eviator Slivnik on drums, and Ben Tiberio on bass.
