Lumumba presents Afro-Brazilian rhythms at Mestre dos Saberes Festival

Benedito Luiz Amauro uses the artistic name of Lumumba in homage to the liberator of Zaire, Patricio Lumumba. The Brazilian artist Lumumba performed a concert in December 2021 at the Mestre dos Saberes festival, a showcase highlighting Brazilian traditional music masters.

Lumumba is a drum maker (Oni-lu), an expert of the mysteries of the ancient craft of percussion, poet and composer. In the early 1980s, he released his first album Cafuné, when he met Mestre Didi who opened up Lumumba’s perception to the world of Afro-Brazilian rhythms and instruments.

The lineup featured Lumumba on vocals and guitar; Marquinho Mendonça on guitar and viola; Bruno Luciano on double bass; Farmer Drummer on drums; and João Nascimento on percussion.
