The World Music Institute will present Mike Block & Balla Kouyaté Ensemble on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Kaufman Music Center in New York City. The show is part of the The World Music Institute’s collaborations Series.
Mike Block and Balla Kouyaté have been collaborating for over ten years. Mike Block is an American cellist, singer, and composer, and a Grammy Award-winning musician with Yo-Yo Ma’s Silkroad Ensemble, originally trained in western classical music. For this performance, Block will collaborate with Balla Kouyaté, a Malian balafon master player, jeli (griot) and educator currently based in the United States.
