Mascarimiri, southern Italy’s pizzica salentina innovators, have a music video titled “Mareina.” The group’s sound reflects the melting pot of Salento (Apulia, Italy) a land where deeply rooted traditions meet the cultures of migrants and tourists.
The band’s signature sound is based on the interweaving of rhythms generated by various frame drums of the Mediterranean, ranging from from Salento’s ramburreddhu to the riq and Middle Eastern duf combined with the harmonies of Algerian mandol and mandolin, and Gypsy and Balkan influences.
“Mareina” appears on the band’s Nou album released in 2020.
Mascarimiri recently released its electronic pizzica project Elettro Mascarimiri – Music for Dancing (2021)
