‘Despreocupados (Acoustic Remix)’ is a collaboration between two talented vocalists representing two distinct traditions, Belgian singer Eléonor and Brazilian vocalist and pianist Maíra Freitas, along with Belgian musician Gerry De Mol. The song was released on May 21, 2021 to celebrate World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.
The samba-infused ‘Despreocupados (Acoustic Remix)’ talks about the hypocrisy of the Brazilian elite and how they don’t care about their people and their history.
The percussion on this track was recorded in Rio de Janeiro featuring Brazilian percussionists Pedro Amparo and Pablo Carvalho.
Maíra Freitas is the daughter of samba icon Martinho da Vila. She is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her music intertwines rhythms from samba with influences from classical music and jazz. She released 2 solo albums and performed alongside legends of Brazilian music, such as Chico Buarque, Maria Rita, Gilberto Gil, Alcione, Wilson das Neves, Hamilton de Holanda and many others. She recently produced the soundtrack for the film ‘Sementes: Mulheres Pretas no Poder’: that talks about the position of black women in Brazil.
Eléonor has an interest in Brazilian music and traveled to Brazil in 2018. There she discovered the rich culture and music of the South American nation.
