Still Life Wins 2020 Andrea Parodi World Music Award

The band Still Life from Barcelona, Spain is the winner of the 2020 Premio Andrea Parodi (Andrea Parodi Award), a European contest focused on world music. Still life performed the song “Tempo.” The group is led by Italian vocalist Margherita Abita and Portuguese violinist João Silva. Although they originally met in Portugal, they later relocated to Barcelona, Spain.

The critics ‘prize went to Alessio Arena (Campania, Italy/Spain) with “Los niños que vuelan.”

The competition also featured Ars Nova Napoli (Campania, Italy); Eleonora Bordonaro (Sicily, Italy); Elena D`Ascenzo (Abruzzo, Italy); Kalascima (Salento, Italy); and Danilo Ruggero (Sicily, Italy).

The award ceremony took place at the Si ‘e Boi Theater in Selargius (Cagliari). It was streamed on various online media.

This postponed 2020 edition was hosted by Ottavio Nieddu and Gianmaurizio Foderaro. On Friday, May 14, the festival screened the music video of the song “Rahil” by Fanfara Station, produced by the Parodi Foundation. Fanfara Station won the Award in 2019.

On Saturday, May 15, accordionist Pierpaolo Vacca performed as a guest, mixing Sardinian roots with electronics.

The competition notice for 14th edition of Premio Andrea Parodi is available online; the finals of 14th edition will take place in Cagliari during October 14-16, 2021. The competition is open to artists coming from all over the world, and registration is free. Applications must be sent by May 31, 2021 using the format found online at www.fondazioneandreaparodi.it
