WOMEX 2020 Reveals Its Official Film Program Selection

International world music conference WOMEX has announced the 2020 Film Program, featuring a curated selection of 21 documentaries.

This year’s films reflect on themes and relevant questions arising at this time. Topics range from the representation of Africa, female empowerment, inclusivity & diversity, the Black lives matter movement, grassroots community actions, ecology and spirituality. The program includes new releases, preview screenings and premieres.

For the digital edition of WOMEX 2020, the complete selection of films will be available online via streaming on the virtualWOMEX platform October 15 – 25, 2020 accessible to all WOMEX 2020 digital participants worldwide.

A retrospective of filmmaker Jeremy Marre’s films Konkombe, Roots Rock Reggae, Rhythm of Resistance and Salsa from his award-winning series Beats of the Heart is also available to all WOMEX 2020 digital participants as bonus content from September 24 to October 8, 2020.

The WOMEX Film Program provides a platform for the film industry to reach new markets while exploring additional distribution and production channels. The program also creates an immersive experience for bookers, curators, label managers and publishers, among others to discover music, artists, and cross-cultural collaborations, while reflecting on alternative programming opportunities.
