Guitarist and Latin rock pioneer Guillermo “Jorge” Santana died on May 14, 2020.
Jorge Santana was born in Autlán, Mexico on June 13, 1951. He moved to the United States and became one of the founders of Malo, a leading Latin rock band in the early 1970s. Malo combined Latin American rhythms, rock, jazz and blues.
Malo who had a top twenty hit titled “Suavecito” in 1972.
Malo released four albums: Malo (1972), Dos (1972), Evolution (1973) and Ascension (1974).
Jorge Santana released four solo albums: Jorge Santana (1978), It’s All About Love (1979), Here I Am, a compilation with unreleased material (2009), and Gracias Madrecita (2011).
In 1994, Jorge recorded an album with his brother, rock star Carlos Santana, called Santana Brothers.
