Canadian Festival du Bois Reveals 2016 Program

The 27th edition of Festival du Bois will take place March 4-6, 2016 at Mackin Park in Maillardville/Coquitlam, British Columbia.

Festival du Bois celebrates French-Canadian culture and has grown to become British Columbia’s largest and most popular celebration of francophone music, dance, craft, food, and culture. The festival presents a diverse and wide-ranging vision in its programming, showcasing some of the finest Québécois, francophone, folk, world and roots music artists. Nearby Place des Arts hosts the festival’s opening night concert, a visual arts exhibition, and other festival-related events.

The 2016 list of music artists includes:

Le Bruit court dans la ville features three legends of Québec’s traditional music scene, Lisa Ornstein, Normand Miron, and André Marchand.

RéVeillons! play jigs, reels, French songs and step dances, Réveillons gathers up choice tunes from varied eras of Québécois music, and delivers them with enthusiasm.

Maz delivers original compositions inspired traditional Québécois tunes, modal jazz and trance-inducing modern grooves.

Sonerion

Sonerion & Les Bretons de Québec are the leading Canadian exponents of Fest Noz or Night Party music from Brittany, France.

Acadian singer-songwriter Danny Boudreau (Danny Party), one of New Brunswick’s biggest stars, who plays everything from folk to country, both contemporary sounds and a touch of the traditional.

Yoro Noukoussi is a North Benin-born percussionist who delivers the sights, sounds, and rhythms of West Africa.

Gabriel Dubreuil’s music draws from Irish, Scottish and North American traditions, as well as jazz.

Annette Campagne is a prairie folk-rock singer-songwriter.

Winnipeg singer and violinist Raine Hamilton, along with Annette Campagne, open the festival on March 4 at Coquitlam’s Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Avenue).

Other musical groups and performers at the festival include British Columbia’s Vazzy and Jean Pierre Makosso, and Alberta’s Le Bûcheron (Gilbert Parent).

Roving performers include Sand Northrup’s One Woman Circus, Isabelle Kirouac, Émilie Leclerc (aka Gretta), Marcel Lebrun (also known as Tourbillon le Bouffon Bûcheron!), and Lexi Calbery.
