New York world music ensemble TriBeCaStan will present its new album Goddess Polka Dotess on Friday, September 18, 2015 at Drom in New York City. This concert marks the Festival Opening Night of the 2015 New York Gypsy Music Festival.
Defying boundaries between world, folk, and jazz, the evolving collective of TriBeCastan is a vigorous collaboration by some of New York’s finest jazz and world musicians. Band members have worked with such artists as Ornette Coleman, Patti Smith, Aretha Franklin, John McLaughlin, James Brown, Santana, Sting and Taj Mahal. Together, as TriBeCaStan, they take music to new territories.
On their brand new album titled Goddess Polka Dottess the band travels from India to Ethiopia, to Jamaica and Eastern Europe and back to New York.
Musical influences include bluegrass, circus music, exotic desert beats, dervish dance, ska, 1920sstyle swing, Looney Tunes cartoon music, 1970s Quincy Jones, and East African dance music.
