Acclaimed Persian Music Artists Dastan Ensemble & Mahdieh Mohammadkhani to Perform in New York

Dastan Ensemble & Mahdieh Mohammadkhani are set to perform in New York on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 20:00 (8:00 PM) at Roulette.

Dastan is one of Iran’s most celebrated ensembles. On this occasion, it will be joined by vocalist Mahdieh Mohammadkhani, a young artist who has won much attention in recent years for her enthralling interpretations of contemporary and traditional Persian music.

Founded in 1990, Dastan has produced many award-winning recordings and performed with of the finest musicians in Iran, such as Shahram Nazeri, Sima Bina, Parisa and Salar Aghili, as well as with the Liege Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. The ensemble’s discography includes: In the Name of the Red Rose: Iranian Classical Music, Mayeh-ye Dashti & Mayeh-ye Isfahan: Iranian Classical Music, Through Eternity: Homage to Molavi (Rumi), Shoorideh, Gol-E Behesht and Journey to Persia.

The concert will feature new works by Hamid Motebassem based on the Foroogh Farrokhzad (1935-1967) poem “A Window.” Dastan includes virtuoso performers Hamid Motebassem on tar and setar; Saeed Farajpouri on kamancheh; Hossein Behroozinia on barbat; and Pejman Hadadi on percussion.
