The second week of the tenth edition of the Suma Flamenca Festival (Flamenco Summit Festival) in Madrid, running from 9 to June 14, will feature nine shows representing various singing and dancing traditions. There is also a flamenco workshop for teachers and an exhibition.
The Sala Roja (Red Room) of Teatros del Canal is the main headquarters for this week’s programming hosting five shows. The events started started yesterday with a concert by famed vocalist Jose Merce, who showcased the purest flamenco. He was accompanied on guitar by Manuel Parrilla.
The second event of the week will be presented today, June 10 at 20:30. The Flamenco 5 estrellas show will be staged for the first time in Spain and brings together five great dancers from Spain: Lola Greco, Jesus Carmona, Karime Amaya, Sergio Bernal and Ana Arroyo, under the direction of Ricardo Cué. They will present a tour of the art of Spanish dance and flamenco with its various styles from the purest roots to the twenty-first century.
Arcangel and Rocio Marquez, Flamenco Essence and Innovation
Celebrated vocalist Arcangel will present to the public his deep understanding and respect for the origin of flamenco with his incessant search for new rhythms. His Olor a tierra performance will evoke his childhood in Huelva with Miguel Angel Cortes and Dani de Morón on guitars, Agustin Diassera on percussion and Los Mellis on vocals and palmas (handclap percussion). The event will take place on Thursday, June 11 at 20:30.
Singer Rocío Márquez is set to provide another highly anticipated concert titled El Niño, celebrating the legendary El Niño de Marchena, Pepe Marchena. She will perform on Friday the 12th, accompanied by Pepe Habichuela and Manuel Herrera on guitar, Raul Cantizano on electric guitar, Antonio Montiel on drums and percussion, Niño de Elche on vocals, and Los Mellis on palmas.
