Portuguese singer Mara is set to showcase at EXIB (Latin American Music Expo) on May 7, 2015 at Auditorio Azkuna Zentroa in Alhóndiga Bilbao (Spain). Admission is free.
Mara was born in Alentejo, in the south of Portugal. The art of singing accompanied her from her childhood days, where Fado was always present amongst her family. Mara performs bossa nova, MPB and Portuguese Music projects. She studied at JB Jazz School and participated in the Música nos Hospitais project (Music at Hospitals). In 2003 she wrote her first song while still in Lisbon.
In 2009 she returned to her roots, Alentejo. Carlos Menezes (bassist and music director) motivated her to “dust off” her songs, revisiting her older material with a new approach, and writing new songs, leading the way to the full length album titled Folha de Rosto.
This debut recording features Daniel da Silva (Flamenco guitar), Henrique Leitão (Portuguese guitar) and Rui Gonçalves (percussion), musicians with whom she had collaborated with in other occasions. With “Folha de Rosto”, Mara started a journey, where her music reached a new space that went beyond her dream.
