Irish music band The Gloaming is the winner of the Album of the Year at the Irish Meteor Choice Music Prize for their self-titled recording The Gloaming. The Gloaming received a check for €10,000 (euros), a prize provided by the Irish Music Rights Organization (IMRO) and the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA). The Meteor Choice Music Prize promotes Irish music of excellence. Rather than using record sales or airplay as criteria, the Meteor Choice Music Prize judges focus exclusively on the music.
The Gloaming connects the rich Irish folk tradition and the New York contemporary music scene, ranging from haunting sean-nós songs to dazzling folk explosions. The Gloaming includes three Irish musicians: Martin Hayes (fiddle), Iarla O Lionaird (vocals) and Caoimhin O Raghallaigh (fiddle) and two Americans, Dennis Cahill (guitar) and Thomas Bartlett “Doveman” (piano).
Martin Hayes and American guitarist Dennis Cahill will be on tour as a duo in the United States this spring, including March 27 at the Highline Ballroom in New York City and May 8 at Freight & Salvage in San Francisco.
