The Festival de la Trova Pepe Sánchez 2015 will take place in Santiago de Cuba, March 18-22 March. Santiago de Cuba is known as the cradle of trova music. This is oldest musical event in Cuba, founded in the 1960s.
The composers and performers that will be honored include Manuel Corona, Juvenal Quesada and Tania Castellano, along with the scholar María Teresa Linares. The emblematic pieces ‘Longina’, ‘Pensamiento’ and ‘Mujer perjura’ will also be recognized.
Longstanding groups in the trova scene of the eastern city will also be honored, including Familia Varela Miranda and Septeto Santiaguero.
On March 19 , the anniversary of the birth of José (Pepe) Sánchez, a tailor who became an artist, the author of the bolero ‘Tristezas’ and a pioneer of trova song- the participants will pay tribute to distinguished Cuban musicians at the Santa Ifigenia cemetery.
