Mbongwana Star is the name of a newly formed group from Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The band will be touring Europe in April and May of 2015. British label World Circuit will release Mbongwana Star’s debut album in May.
Mbongwana Star (‘Mbongwana’ means ‘change’) mixes traditional Congolese rhythms with what the label calls ‘post punk’ and electronics, inspired by life in the townships around them. The group is “making magic out of garbage” says producer and band member Doctor L. The band is described as trans-global barrier-busting sound machine.
