Flamenco Viene del Sur Announces 2015 Program

The director of the Andalusian Institute of Flamenco, Maria Angeles Carrasco Hidalgo, revealed the Flamenco Viene del Sur 2015 program, a series that will celebrate its eighteenth edition. The program will feature 112 artists, with a total of 23 performances. Programming has taken into account gender equality, artistic excellence, and balances tradition and modernity as well as experience and youth.

The performances will take place in Seville, Granada. The selection was made through an open public bid process by the Andalusian Institute of Flamenco in which 208 proposals were received. This year twelve new artists will participate in Flamenco Viene del Sur for the first time: El Carpeta, Diego de Morón, Antonio Cortés, Pepe Torres, Nazaret Reyes, Antonio de Verónica, Saray Cortés, Alberto Sellés and Rafael Rodríguez.

In addition, well-known artists will appear in the series: José Menese, Pepe Habichuela, Diego de Morón, La Farruca, Mayte Martín, La Macanita, Pastora Galván, El Pele, José Antonio Rodríguez, Javier Ruibal, Rubén Olmo, Capullo de Jerez, David Morales and Rocío Márquez.

As in previous editions, the Canovas Theatre in Malaga will host the April 24, 2015 Gala with the winners of the V Certamen Andaluz de Jóvenes Flamencos (5th Andalusian Contest fr Young Flamencos) which is organized by the Andalusian Institute of Youth. The finalists in dance were Julio González Ruiz from Almeria, who won the top prize, and Alvaro Tomas Ortiz from Sevilla as runner up; the singers were José Plantón from Cordoba, and Tomás García from Granada was runner up. The winner in the guitar category was Luis Medina from Cordoba; second place went to Alvaro Mora from Huelva. The final was held on Saturday, December 13 at the Palacio de Congresos in La Línea de la Concepción in Cádiz.

Bringing flamenco to all and making it accessible to the public is the objective of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports of the Andalusian government, hence prices remain stable at 17 euros, with special discounts when purchased as a subscription or for groups such as students, elderly and unemployed.
