Wahh!, a world fusion band based in Florida will be touring southern California in late January. Wahh!’s sound is rooted in India’s rich traditional musical culture and enveloped in an artful mix of jazz, rock and funk. Reflecting prominent traditional Indian and Western influences, Wahh! also brings in subtle influences from the Middle East and Africa.
Tabla maestro, vocalist, multi-percussionist and composer, Shankh Lahiri created Wahh! out of his desire to combine his traditional musical origins from India with his current and contemporary musical explorations from the West. In addition, Shankh’s deep appreciation of other musical genres from around the world inspired his organization of the band.
In addition to Shankh, Wahh!’s lineup features virtuoso musicians Peter Mongaya on guitar, Michael Washington on drums and percussion, Ray Villadonga on bass, and e-sitar player Rajib Karmakar. Frequent guests include sitar master Abhik Mukherjee and Jay Gandhi on bansuri flute.
The band has an album titled Liberation.
