Malian ngoni maestro Bassekou Kouyate will release his fourth album and his first for German label Glitterbeat Records (winner of the WOMEX 2014 Label Award and home to artists such as Aziza Brahim, Noura Mint Seymali, Fofoulah and Samba Toure).
Bassekou, a musical innovator, returned to the studio in Bamako last month to record the follow-up to 2013’s critically acclaimed ‘Jama Ko.’ The as yet untitled album was produced by Chris Eckman, known for his work with Tamikrest, Aziza Brahim and Dirtmusic, and is scheduled for release in the UK on April 27, 2015.
Distortion and wah wah are now at the heart of Bassekou Kouyate’s sound along with the fiery vocals of his wife Amy Sacko.
