Brazilian icons Egberto Gismonti and Jaques Morelenbaum are set to perform September 6 at MIMO festival in Olinda at Igreja da Sé at 20:30 (8:30 pm).
One of the leading artists of contemporary instrumental music, Brazilian virtuoso, composer and innovator Egberto Gismonti’s concert at MIMO Festival promises to be exceptional. Spanning a 40-year career and an extensive high quality legacy, Gismonti is an acclaimed and wide-ranging artist.
With more than 60 albums released in over 50 countries by Carmo/ECM Records, plus several film, orchestra and ballet scores, his agenda is packed with selected performances and recording sessions around the world, featuring international artists, orchestras and groups. Some of Gismonti’s most iconic recordings include: Danca Das Cabecas, Sol Do Meio Dia, In Montreal, Magico: Carta De Amor, Zig Zag, Danca Dos Escravos, Feixe De Luz, and Infancia.
Egberto Gismonti will present a selection of real treasures of his remarkable catalog featuring in Olinda master Brazilian cellist and arranger Jacques Morelenbaum, a musical globetrotter and frequent collaborator with the likes of Caetano Veloso, Tom Jobim, Sting and Riuchi Sakamoto. In MIMO 2014 at Paraty, Gismonti will perform solo, switching from the acoustic guitar to the grand piano.
MIMO Festival 2014 presents some of the finest acts in jazz, world music and classical. It takes place August 29-31 in Ouro Preto (Minas Gerais); September 4-7 at Olinda (Pernambuco); October 10-12 at Paraty (Rio De Janeiro State); and October 17-19 at Tiradentes (Minas Gerais).
