Galician folk group Luar Na Lubre is set to perform July 17, 2014 at the Alfonso XIII Royal Botanic Gardens at Complutense University of Madrid.
Luar Na Lubre is one of the most important folk groups in Galicia, the Spanish region in northwestern Spain. The group will present its latest recording and the concert will consist of more than two hours with the finest material from the band’s long musical career.
Luar Na Lubre ’s style is based primarily on music with Galician roots. Luar Na Lubre’s musicians have studied Galician traditional songs and carried out fieldwork throughout the region. The group’s most recent recordings include Solsticio (2010) and Mar Maior (2012).
In 1992 Luar Na Lubre met British musician Mike Oldfield, developing an enduring friendship. This relationship resulted in a recording that Mike made of the song “O are do ar” composed by Bieito Romero, one of the most representative of Luar Na Lubre’s repertory. Mike included “Or are do ar” on his album Voyager (1996).
