The second edition of world music festival WobeonFest will take place on September 20th, 2014. The festival presents global music and also promotes peace and diversity in Austin and beyond during the International Day of Peace weekend.
The festival will take place at the new Asian American Resource Center. Artists scheduled to perform include Dende and Band (Brazil), Farah Siraj (Jordan), HobaHoba Spirit (Morocco), Taj Weekes (St Lucia), Vivalda Dula (Angola), and local bands like Atash (Middle Eastern), Kiko Villamizar (Colombian), Maracatu Austin (Brazilian) and Anthropos Arts (youth group). Also featured is Dallas-based jazz/funk band The Funky Knuckles.
This year, WobeonFest is seeking to expand its community footmark through collaboration with humanitarian groups and other non-profits to build a coalition that provides mutual benefit to all festival participants. All non-profit partners will receive up to a 20% commission on ticket sales they refer.
The Amala Foundation, a humanitarian service organization with a focus on global youth and peace initiatives, is leading the charge as the leading festival community partner this year. “Amala is a great example of how community organizations can impact global youth and promote diversity,” says WobeonFest founder Jakes Srinivasan. “Global music lends itself to opening people’s minds and hearts in ways that is hard to do in any other way.”
Last year’s festival presented artists such as Angelique Kidjo, FatoumataDiawara, La Santa Cecilia, Bomba Estereo, Collie Buddz, and Red Baraat.
