Carmen Paris, Jineth Bedoya and Alouda Granted the 2014 Pirineos Sur Awards

 

The 2014 Pirineos Sur Awards have been awarded to Carmen Paris, Jineth Bedoya and Alouda association. These awards that were introduced last year, value the effort to disseminate music and maintain relations between peoples of different latitudes from the role of culture in social integration. Pirineos Sur 2014 festival will run from July 11 to 27 with the theme ‘Female plural’. The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, July 20, from 19:30 at the World Markets Stage.

The Cultural Diversity Award goes to Aragonese composer and singer Carmen Paris. The songwriter will be recognized for her work to raise awareness for the Aragonese jota to audiences in Spain and its fusion with other musical styles such as jazz and Cuban sounds.

 

The Culture and Integration Award was awarded to the association of friends of the Saharawi people of Altoaragón (Alouda). Among its many activities, Alouda promotes in Huesca province foster care during the months of summer children living in refugee camps.

 

 

 

With this award The Council of Huesca wants to support the job done year after year by this cultural organization to develop relations between the Sahara and Spain, promoting mutual understanding between the two peoples, while making possible creative entertainment for children living in the Saharawi camps.

Colombian journalist Jineth Bedoya is personally committed to the defense of the rights of women and, more specifically, victims of sexual violence in Colombia, either within the context of the armed conflict or outside.

 

 

Recognized among the hundred most influential journalists in the world covering wars and conflicts and international awards such as “Women of Courage, Women of Courage” the government of the United States, Jineth is the deputy director of Colombia’s main newspaper (El Tiempo) and was the first woman who dared to publicly acknowledge that she had been kidnapped, tortured and raped by paramilitary groups while exercising her profession.

Jineth currently leads the campaign ‘Now it’s not time to shut up‘ that invites all women of the world to raise their voice against any kind of violence.
