Cordoba’s National Flamenco Art Contest Announces Finalists in Vocal Category

concurso_arte_FlamencoThe 20th Concurso Nacional de Arte Flamenco de Córdoba (Cordoba’s National Flamenco Art Contest) announced the name of the four cantaores (flamenco singers) that will compete for the Premio de Cante (Cante Award).

The jury this year included cantaores Antonio Fernández Díaz ‘Fosforito’, Manuel Moreno Maya ‘El Pele’ and Mayte Martín. The jury unanimously selected the following performers:

Tamara Aguilera Garamendi, ‘Tamara Aguilera’ (La Puebla del Río, Sevilla, 1989)

Eva María de Dios Moreno, ‘Eva de Dios’ (Córdoba, 1977)

Manuel Domínguez Gallardo, ‘Manuel Cástulo’ (Sevilla, 1970)

Pedro Heredia Reyes, ‘Pedro El Granaíno’ (Granada, 1973)

The two female and two male singers will compete for the Cante First Prize (Primer Premio de Cante) of the Concurso Nacional de Arte Flamenco de Córdoba, with a 10.000 euro cash prize and a diploma. In addition, the contest winner will perform five concerts in Córdoba province, with support from the Diputación Provincial (provincial government).

This year the festival has added a Second Award for Cante with a 4.000 euro cash prize and diploma for the winner. The remaining finalists will receive 2.000 euros and diploma.

The final contests for cante (song), baile (dance) and guitarra (guitar) will be held at Cordoba’s Gran Teatro at 20:30, starting on Saturday, November 23 and will continue through Tuesday, November 26th.
