On Thursday, September 26th, Warsaw’s world music festival celebrated the music from various islands throughout the globe under the title “Keepers of tradition.” The lineup included the famed Sardinian vocal group Tenores di Bitti Mialinu Pira. The four singers are masters of polyphonic singing cantu a Tenor.

The other highlight of the evening Danyel Waro, the legendary performer from Reunion, a small island in the Indian Ocean colonized by France. Waro’s songs protest against the domination of French culture and discrimination against dark-skinned inhabitants of the island. Waro sings in Creole.
