Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA Reveals Global Music 2013-2014 Season

Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA (CAP UCLA) in Los Angeles announced the 2013-2014 season, under the executive and artistic direction of Kristy Edmunds.

Roots, folk and global-music artists selected include Ricky Skaggs & Bruce Hornsby with Kentucky Thunder (Oct. 18); Ireland’s Masters of Tradition (March 30); Israeli musician Idan Raichel with his Idan Raichel Project (Oct. 10); Mali’s ngoni maestro Bassekou Kouyate (Feb 8) who will headline a concert opened by an acoustic set from True Blues, a troupe of young American blues and reggae artists Corey Harris, Alvin Youngblood Hart and Guy Davis.

There will also be a captivating self-portrait from renowned Spanish flamenco singer Estrella Morente (March 16) in her Los Angeles debut; and one of the most important figures in Iranian music and master of the tar and setar Hossein Alizadeh, who returns to Royce Hall with his poetic and inspiring Hamavayan Ensemble (April 26).

The season will also feature Boston-based Mexo-Americana folk band David Wax Museum paired with Los Angeles’ own Latin rockers La Santa Cecilia (April 11).
