Diali Cissokho and Kairaba to Perform at El Anatsui Farewell Celebration at NC Museum of Art

Diali Cissokho and Kairaba
One of Senegal’s top kora players, Diali Cissokho, and his band, Kairaba will be performing at El Anatsui Farewell Celebration at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh on Friday, July 27th at 5:30 pm. Diali and Kairaba perform a mix of traditional and contemporary music. Diali is the grandson of Soundioulou Cissokho, one of Senegal’s most prominent kora players.

The kora is a West African instrument made with a large, hollowed-out calabash and featuring 21 strings, played in the style of a harp.

El Anatsui: When I Last Wrote to You about Africa follows the productive career of El Anatsui—one of contemporary art’s most celebrated artists—from his early woodwork in Ghana to today’s metal wall sculptures designed in his studio in Nigeria, offering an unparalleled opportunity for visitors to see the artist’s creative development over 40 years.
